Today, I stand here to oppose the proposal to change Australia Day. I believe that this important day should be preserved because it represents the unity of our national history and identity. My second speaker will be speaking about how Australia Day will make people have a raw opinion in life and how changing the date of Australia Day would make people depressed.

Out team’s first argument is Australia Day is a time to acknowledge our history

Australia Day marks the arrival of the first British fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788. This day is of great historical significance because it represents the beginning of European colonization of this continent. While this event brought pain and suffering to the Aboriginal people, it is also an indelible part of our national story. Acknowledging our history, both its good and bad aspects, is essential to moving forward as a country.

Our team’s second argument is Australia Day is a time to celebrate multiculturalism

Australia is a country with a rich multicultural heritage. Immigrants from all over the world have made valuable contributions to our country. Australia Day is a time to celebrate this multiculturalism and reflect on our common identity. It is a day that brings us all together and makes us proud of our achievements.

Of course, Australia Day is not without controversy. Some people believe that it commemorates colonial oppression and the suffering of Aboriginal people. Others believe that this day should be changed to a day that better reflects all Australians.

I understand these concerns. However, I believe Australia Day can become a more inclusive day by acknowledging our past and looking to the future. We can use the day to educate people about Aboriginal history and celebrate the diversity of our multicultural society.

All in all, I think Australia Day should stay. It is a historically significant day that unites us as a country. We can use the day to acknowledge our past and celebrate the present and future of our multicultural society.

So that’s why Australia Day should not be changed.
